About the event
Jonny Bruce brings his organ quartet to the Bristol Jazz Festival
The Jonny Bruce Quintet. For this new Hammond organ based line-up Jonny has put together a more hard-bop and Blue Note style set. Including tunes from Horace Silver, Roy Hargrove and Stan Getz.
Jonny Bruce has been in some way a part of the Bristol Jazz Festival since its inception. Not only because he is an exceptional world class trumpet player, but also because he is an important part of the Bristol music community and a dear friend.
He is fluent in the whole history of jazz trumpet as he demonstrated some years back in his Trumpet Kings project, in which he covered pieces from Louis Armstrong to Freddie Hubbard. He’s a featured soloist with Moscow Drug Club, as well as maintaining a busy freelance career – his trumpet has recently been featured on the BBC drama series The Outlaws.
From Bobby Shew, Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis to Kelis and Illa J, his trumpet has seen him perform at venues and festivals across the world with many greats from a variety of genres.
We are very excited to have him with his Quintet of outstanding young players this year!
