About the event
John Law's Re-Creations Quartet play at Dorchester Arts Center.
John Law, described as ‘one of the UK’s most imaginative and versatile jazz pianists’ by International Piano Magazine, presents Re-Creations – a musical evening like no other. A must for jazz fans, but a fascinating evening for anyone who enjoys musical innovation!
John takes the world’s best-known tunes from all genres – jazz, pop, indie, rock, folk, classical – and re-creates them, finding new arrangements and sometimes just spontaneously re-inventing them. But no matter how free and inventive, complex and intricate the arrangements become, audiences always feel part of the creative process because they know the tune and recognise it when it comes back.
So, join us for brand new repertoire, including tunes by the Beatles, a baroque arrangement of Fly Me To The Moon, a raucous version of U Can’t Touch This, an arrhythmic take on Smoke on the Water, a gorgeous re-working of Moon River and a gentle swinging journey through Debussy’s Clair de Lune…
John is joined for this breathtakingly musical evening by UK Parliamentary Jazz Award Winner saxophonist Sam Crockatt; Danish bass player and composer Henrik Jensen; and a new young firebrand on the UK jazz drumming scene, Alex Goodyear.
